Swim with sharks on the Coral Reef
This is 100% one of the top things to do in Caye Caulker. There are so many tour operators who can take you to explore the 61-square-mile pristine marine reserve. I did a full-day boat and snorkelling tour with EZ Boy Tours who I highly recommend.
They provided us with 2 meals, unlimited rum punch, great music, banter and memories that will last a lifetime. We swam with sharks, stingrays and puffer fish, all whilst learning about the island’s history through the local tour guides.
Experience the Split at Lazy Lizard
The most popular beach on Caye Caulker is The Split. The island was famously split apart by a hurricane in 1961, if you head down to the Lazy Lizard Bar & Grill you can see this with your own eyes.
We spent a full day at the Lazy Lizard when visiting Caye Caulker and had such a fun day. Great music, great beers, social atmosphere and crystal blue water. What more could you want?
The Great Blue Hole
If you’re an adrenaline junky, this should be on your list of top things to do in Caye Caulker. This famous sinkhole is 318 metres across as well as being 124 metres deep. The famous sinkhole is about a 70 km or 2-hour boat ride from Caye Caulker but is considered to be one of the most astounding dive sites found anywhere on Planet Earth.
There are a few tour operators on the island who will be able to take you to the Blue Hole. The journey is still a few hours so I don’t think these tours operate every day and do not come cheap either!
Go Scuba Diving
You’d be silly not to experience the second-largest barrier reef in the world fully! Belize Barrier Reef is one of the most diverse ecosystems on the globe and in my opinion, gives The Great Barrier Reef a run for its money. There are so many different species of sea life that you will have never seen before and scuba diving is a great way to immerse yourself in this alien world fully!
There are many operators providing the service on the island but will also provide you with links to some that I am happy to recommend!
Enjoy Rum Punch At Sunset
Those of you who have read my other blogs know that I enjoy a cold beverage! There is not a more fitting place to enjoy rum punch whilst the sun goes to sleep than Caye Caulker. Rum punch is the island’s favourite drink, and they know how to make them right.
Being so close to the equator, Caye Caulker has some of the most beautiful sunsets, so admiring the sun going down with a fresh drink in your hand is definitely one of the top things to do in Caye Caulker. The sun setting on the white sandy palm tree-lined shores is an experience you will not forget. Make sure to head down to the beaches one evening to catch it in its full beauty.
